With the launch of the Beehive Co-op franchise program in September 2006, Beehive Co-op will begin to develop a national system of affiliates and create a strong network of stores that are dedicated to supporting local designers and bringing well crafted and interesting products to the marketplace. Beehive Co-op already has a strong brand identity and is ideally suited to individuals who are connected to the art and design scene in their local community and who are looking for a retail business that is flexible, interesting to operate, community based, hip, infinitely marketable and extremely rewarding.
Our ultimate goal is to become a group of independent store owners who work cohesively to provide resources, services, and opportunities to emerging designers. We would like nothing short of revolutionizing the retail world and changing how people perceive and connect with the things they purchase.
One of the prevalent retail trends is the search for meaning, the re-connection with humanity (Consumer Trends 2006). This drives consumers to seek out alternatives both in store environment and product offering. Consumers are looking for unique items that represent exclusivity. Additionally, in order to combat a sense of alienation and dissonance with their environment, consumers are looking for a way to support their local community and feel a part of a human process. The Beehive Co-op model fully fits this niche in a way that is sustainable and profitable.
