Advanced Sewing Techniques                   $250

Level: Intermediate
Ages: Adult / 2 person min 6 person max

Intermediate sewing or equivalency is required for this Sewing class. So you can sew and follow a pattern and are ready to get down and solve the mysteries of putting in basic and invisible zippers, collars, sleeves, welt pockets and seams. This class, a series in 3 parts, taught by an experienced designer and patternmaker, will break down each of these items in detail. You will leave with great resources and a sample for reference. For those who want to take the next step in sewing and refine their technique this class is a must! All materials will be provided and students are just required to bring their sewing machines and thread for class.

Basic Jewelry Techniques                            $45
Stringing

More than just putting beads on a string, this class will teach proper stringing material, composition of beads, tools, and finishing techniques to differentiate your piece from beginner to pro! MATERIALS: This class provides basic training beads, beading wire, crimp beads, clasp and tools. Students are welcome to bring in their own beads to use! Additional semi-precious beads will be available for an additional charge.

Basic Jewelry Techniques                            $55
Wire Wrapping

In this class you will learn to manipulate wire or pins to create wire wrap loops, closed loops, and how the technique can be used in projects to make your own decorative chain links, incorporate chain, and better secure your findings. MATERIALS: This class provides basic training beads, beading wire, crimp beads, clasp and tools. Students are welcome to bring in their own beads to use! Additional semi-precious beads will be available for an additional charge.

Business Basics                                                     $250

Designed for the entrepreneurial spirit (open to everyone who has or desires to have an independent business), this one-on-one session is designed to empower small business owners to understand and appropriately manage the key business elements that are essential to the survival and eventual profitability of all small businesses. The information and tools that you will acquire during this 3 hour session will help you visualize, organize and actualize your business so that your time and talents can be applied in the most efficient and targeted manner. Topics and tools include: Ability to identify and document the business direction; writing a business plan (which includes a marketing plan); financial templates including balance sheets, profit & loss, and pricing strategy.

Candlemaking                                                        $100

You will explore the age old craft of candlemaking in this hands on workshop. You will learn the difference between soy wax, bees wax and parafin candles and the benefits of each. You will learn to make a soy wax container candles and leave with your own candle made by YOU and the knowledge to make more!

Cold Process Soapmaking                              $75

Are you a bath & body enthusiast or have you ever wondered how handmade soap is really made? If curiosity has gotten the best of you, come make some soap for yourself. In this introduction to basic soap making each student will learn the age-old process of Cold Process Soap (the same kind your grandma used to make) using a blend of oils & butters along with lye. Each student will make their own 1.5 lb batch of soap (that's 5 luxurious bars) to show off at home.

Fashion Design for Teens                               $200

Do you have what it takes to be the next famous fashion designer? This series of classes will take your passion for fashion and teach you the basic skills you will need to take your ideas to the next level in a supportive and fun environment. The first technique you will learn in the Foundation class is Figures & Flats. You will learn how to design like the top designers. At end of the class you will have a mini concept board with your sketches and your theme.

Gifts to Sew                                                                $75

That’s it. Last year was the LAST year you’ll ever say, “I’m making all my own gifts this year!” just to end up at the store three days beforehand buying whatever would do the trick. THIS year, you’re on top of it, you’re on the ball, you’re taking a workshop at Beehive to get some fabulous ideas for gifts to sew and give! We’ll make a scented coffee trivet, a relaxing eye pouch, a reversible wine gift bag, and a very cool set of coasters. If there’s time, how about a quickie apron from scratch? Come ready to be inspired and motivated to give the handmade Christmas you always intended. You’ll leave with a fistful of patterns and a head start. Bring your sewing machine and your shopping list—we’re making gifts!

Holiday Decorations!                                         $75

There’s something magical about getting out the holiday decorations and transforming your home as the weather turns cooler. Each year we have favorite decorations that say, “Welcome, winter!” as we unpack them once again. Come join a workshop to create more of those best memories, and make new decorations by hand—for yourself or to give! We’ll tackle a tree skirt, a stocking, some quick and fun ornaments, and a table runner, all with some spice and kick to set your holiday home apart from the crowd. Why settle for the humdrum, pre-packaged holiday in the stores when you can have a handmade home with some sass? You’ll leave with patterns galore and inspiration to last through the New Year. Bring your sewing machine and sense of style.

Intermediate Sewing / Deborah                 $250

Basic machine sewing skills and understanding of how your machine works are required for this class if you have not taken an Intro Sewing class. This class picks up where Introduction to Sewing leaves off. We cover commercial patterns and the skills you’ll need to use them, including selecting a pattern, what size pattern suits your body, pattern symbols, cutting skills, and the secrets of following pattern instructions. You’ll choose one pattern to complete over the four class sessions, and finish the class with a garment to wear!

Intro to Doll Making                                           $185

In this three week course we will experiment with a “pancake pattern” in order to create doll forms. You will learn multiple approaches to express yourself through the creation of the two piece pancake form. Samples will be available in class for you to look at. One basic pancake doll pattern will be supplied by the instructor and you will learn how to turn that into a beautiful, embellished three dimensional doll! Upon registration a materials list will be provided.

Intro to Quilting                                                    $250

Are you one of those people who has always loved quilts but never thought you could make one of your own? Now is your chance to learn. This class is for the absolute quilting beginner. Over the four weeks you will learn about color, design and fabric. You will also learn about specific tools required for this art form as well as quick cutting and piecing techniques. Students can choose to develop their projects using hand or machine sewing. Students sewing by machine are required to have a basic understanding of their sewing machines. Patterns and instructions suitable for beginners will be provided by the instructor. Upon registration a materials list will be provided.

Intro Sewing am & pm                                       $250

Ages: 16 to adult / 2 person min 4 person max

This class is designed for the beginner or returning sewer who wants to learn the basics. The four-week series will cover sewing machine parts and use; straight and curved seams; making pleats, darts and gathers; facings, bindings and linings; hemming; and installing buttons and zippers. Each of the four class sessions will allow you to create an original project to take home, like a round piped pillow, a small tote bag, or an elastic waist skirt. You’ll go from “no experience necessary” to “have machine, will travel” in no time, and you’ll have some cool stuff you made yourself to prove it. You will need a sewing machine and basic sewing supplies for this class.

Kids Basic Jewelry                                           $60

This class will teach young designers how to fashion beads onto stringing wire, use crimps, and clasps. Each child will leave with at least one finished piece of jewelry. MATERIALS: This class includes the beads, beading wire, crimp beads, clasp and tools. Students are welcome to bring in their own beads if they wish!

Kids Intro Sewing                                             $125

What’s cooler than cutting up pretty fabric and putting it back together to make something new? Kids love to create, and sewing is a great take-along skill for them to learn. This four session class is way better than an after school program. Kids will start by learning the basics of sewing by hand, then move on to simple machine projects using paper and fabric as they make handcrafted greeting cards. They’ll practice cutting according to a pattern, stitching seams, and embellishing with thread and notions. By the end, your little tailor will create a back-to-school bag just the right size to tote books home from the library. Along the way, they’ll fill a notebook with samplers and ideas to use over and over. Great for boys and girls, plants the seed for a long-term love of craft and creativity!

Kids Papermaking                                            $60

This workshop will teach kids how to make handmade paper using plant fibers. We will be using all natural materials found locally and maybe even in your own backyard. We will also explore various papermaking techniques such as embedding, debossing and laminating. The instructor will also share tips on easy ways to make paper at home using purchased products. All the tools and materials needed for the workshop are included and kids will take them home at the end of the class. Robert will furnish dried flowers, beads, threads and many other items from his personal collections, but participants may also bring items that they might want to use in their paper. Kids can roll up their sleeves, get their hands wet and learn the ancient craft of making paper!

Kids Sewing Workshop                                 $60

These workshops will be geared towards completing one project in two sessions. Children should be familiar with a sewing machine. Workshops will vary from month to month and generally be seasonal in nature. Examples include; Make a Plush Toy, Make an Apron, Make your Halloween Costume, and Make your own Draw String Tote.

Learn to Knit                                                       $80

Knit, purl, yarn over...is it all greek to you? Yes, but the allure of working with all that great yarn out there has got you intrigued? Has crafting gifts for friends and making a scarf that matches perfectly with your new coat got you excited? Maureen will teach you the basics of casting on, knit stitch, purl stitch, yarn over, and binding off with lots of hands on help and samples of what you can make with these basic stitches. You may even craft a piece to donate to charity and make a little something for yourself as well

Pick a pattern, get all the materials and come sew in a helpful and fun environment! Instructor will be on hand to help with techniques and answer any questions that might come up. Just come to one session for some one-on-one advice or come to both if your looking for a little encouragement and camaraderie while you sew! Please bring your own machine and supplies!

Papermaking                                                       $180

This is an introductory workshop focusing on making handmade paper using plant fibers found locally. Participants will learn how to prepare the plant materials for papermaking – from the cooking process to the finished paper. We will also explore various papermaking techniques such as embedding, debossing and laminating. In the second class we will explore the creation of handmade stationery, note cards and journals using some of the handmade paper from the previous session. The instructor will provide all the tools and materials needed for the workshop, tools that the participants will take home with them at the end of the session. Though the instructor will furnish dried flowers, beads, threads and many other items from his personal collections, participants may bring items that they might want to use in their paper. Come prepared to get your hands wet and to make some beautifully textured paper.

Patternmaking Techniques                     $250
(Rub-off, draping & flats)

This class is a must for the serious sewer who would like to understand the basics of pattern manipulation. The first session teaches you the basics of patternmaking using the rub-off technique which will give you the tools to copy any complete garment. You will learn to make a fabric pattern in muslin and transfer this pattern to paper for repeated use. Session two will focus on draping of a basic bodice and skirt which you will also learn to transfer to paper. Session three will introduce basic slopers and more advanced pattern manipulation. You will learn to alter basic patterns (provided) to make make a variety of patterns for continued use using the industry grade slopers we provide. All materials for this class will be supplied and you will leave with alot of great hand outs and resources, hands on experience, and more than a few patterns customized for you.

PR Basics                                                                 $125

Public relations is an essential component of growing your business. It’s the art and science of getting your story to the audiences that are seeking your product or service, and it’s invaluable for generating awareness of your brand. This hands-on workshop, led by Kristina Hjelsand, founder of Kitchen Communications, will empower you with the tools to do your own PR. You will discuss how to craft your brand’s authentic story, from creating a killer press kit to writing a press release and publishing a blog. We’ll talk about how to get media interest ...and what to do once you have it. We’ll touch on new media and how to integrate it into your PR and marketing strategy. You’ll leave the class with a starter toolbox of PR tactics and the confidence to take your business to the next level!

OK so we all have a few jeans in our closet that are a little snug or a little loose or have a rip in the wrong spot. If you've got some jeans that have seen better days but you can't seem to part with bring them to this workshop and we'll recycle them into something fabulous! A tote, a pillow, a halter, a skirt - really the sky's the limit! Please bring your own machine and sewing supplies.

We all have a few favorite t's that we can't part with or that are just not quite ready for the rag bin. Well, bring them to this workshop and we'll recycle them into something fabulous! Change a boxy t into something sexy and fabulous, turn a few t-s into a great wrap skirt, or start a t quilt...all you need is a few t's and we'll provide the vision! Please bring your own machine and sewing supplies.
